Best Croissants in Boston, awesome breads, and some seriously good coffee. Easily one of my favorite places to catch a quick breakfast anywhere. Check it out, and check it out early. If your hangover keeps you in bed too long, Blue Fong may well be out of croissants by the time you get your lazy ass over there.

LOVE the cookies here. Nothing beats stopping in for one or two while strolling around the Centre St shops. Definitely worth checking out.

I have been to Blue Frog Bakery several times over the course of about 3 or 4 months so I have experienced a random sampling of food/customer service. I just went here the other day and grabbed a sticky bun (awesome!) and some sort of frangipane tart. I asked the owner what it was and he told me it was a banana frangipane tart. I take it home and try to eat it and it was most definitely apple and most definitely disgustingly dry. VERY disappointed. I've also had a strawberry danish and the brioche. Both were good but not great. This bakery has a very small storefront area; it is mostly the baking area in the back. I prefer the choice/selection at City Feed and Canto 6 for pastries, but Blue Frog is a mediocre substitute. I am just so turned off after that "banana" tart, that I'm not going back for a long time.

Great cookies, ham biscuits , and of course croissants. But the sly winner has to be their cakes. They are great, beautiful, flavorful-- not just sweet. Opera cake is excellent. Smaller space than other JP bakeries so a necessarily smaller selection each day, but they are MUCH better about special orders than the others (lookin' at you, Canto 6, fab though ya are, but that's a review for another day) so if you give them a heads-up, they will provide your little heart's desire. Have never had a special order that wasn't ready to go on time & including everything ordered. Nice folks, too

Picked up a fresh baguette here early one morning, and it was heavenly. Croissants and muffins are also delicious. The one chocolate chip cookie I tried was nothing special - I would recommend sticking with the bread products. Although the store is tiny and often crowded (even at 7:30 in the morning) the service is friendly. Last time I was there the girl working the counter let me pay with credit, even though there is a generally a $5 minimum. Thanks!
(5)Nate D.
While the coffee could be a little hotter, this bakery is hands down the best bakery in JP. Each time I go there's some new, creative, and delicious to try, and every time it's over the top in made from scratch goodness. Sorry, Canto 6, Fiores, and City Feed, you just jumped over by the Blue Frog! Ribbit!!
(5)Rolando V.
a great bakery...not AMAZING, but a definitely great local bakery. good for a hung-over breakfast where you can just stumble in, order yourself a cup of coffee and a great chocolate croissant... or almond croissant, or plain croissant...you getting the idea? the bagels are crap, but what can you expect? that's not a blue-frog specific thang. it ain't new york, it's boston. at least they're fresh... no room to sit, but that's ok since there's a bench outside in the nice weather...
(4)Julia N.
Going in the afternoon around 4PM meant getting a dry, unbuttery and unflfuffy croissant. The nerve. I'll change my score after I decide to go when I expect things to taste 'out of the oven.'
(2)Alma C.
I made a special trip for coffee and a pastry, only to find that their espresso machine has been broken down for some time. Settled on 2 almond croissants, one of which was overly salted, and both of which were almost as dense as bagels. very disappointed, not coming back.
(2)Starving S.
I was in emergency cake mode - you know the feeling when tasked to bring goods for a party and you procrastinate till the 11th hour. I called Blue Frog this morning, reviewed the selection with a woman who was nice enough to hold a cake for me. I drove from the North Shore and was pleased with Blue Frogs service. Definitely coming back to this store in the future.
(5)Matt S.
Went here just because my wife and I had thought the name was cute. Wow, I'm glad I did. Pecan sticky buns were great (would have liked them to be a little stickier--I went in the afternoon, so I'll withhold the superlative "heavenly" until I can get down there earlier and when I assume the buns will be warmer). The cremes--I forget what they're called, but they're a sort of custard-creme brulee mix--they WERE heavenly, awesome, whatever good term you want to use (how about "delicious"?). Plus they brew Rao's Coffee, which is one of my favorite roasters. I'll definitely be back, even though I lean toward Canto.
(5)Steven P.
I just love this place...a little too much. I'm trying to loose a few more pounds, and the scones at Blue Frog aren't helping me any. The goods there are just so fresh and delish, without trying to be over the top or uber creative. I don't need uber fancy baked goods...just a fantastic cookie or a great scone and coffee. I've never been unhappy with anything at the Blue Frog...and I have to say that I'm sort of a grumpy customer. Thanks to all at the Blue Frog.
(5)Jess S.
So yum. I come here when feeling indulgent - their chocolate chip croissant bread pudding muffins are to die for. They only have them on Saturday mornings and tend to sell out around noon.... so bread-pudding-muffin-seekers, plan ahead!
(4)Katie E.
The croissants are phenomenal. Seriously... addicting!! I would have given this place 5 stars until I just recently tried one of their cupcakes. The icing was inedible, I don't know what it is... like whipped crisco. I definitely recommend this place for their pastries and coffee, but for cupcakes... go elsewhere.
(4)michelle p.
Their Chai was a little on the weak side but their blueberry muffin was amazing. Support Local! ETA: 10/30/2006 Their coffee is pretty damn good and they offer soy milk. I've also had their cranberry danish and it's delicious in the way only cranberries can be delicious.
(4)Jonathan B.
I adore this place. Super friendly and informative staff, and among many other things, kickass ciabatta and baked goods. To boot, theres always something interesting and delicious to try in the baked goods basket. Dark chocolate and bacon cookies? Yes. "Donut Muffins?" You bet.
(4)Diane E.
I can't walk past this place without going inside. Every morning the delicious smell of fresh baked breads and their wonderful crispy croissants and delicious pastries wafts onto the street (the other JP bakeries on Center Street do NOT have great croissants- hearty eating they may be but croissants they are not) With enough notice the baker will make stuff special order too. Brad is the name of this fabulous baker and he is perfectly cast! My favorites ~ the Almond Croissants ~ the Multi-grain Pullman Bread and the Danish- just had a Danish with Carmelized apple on top the other day- one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life! 'nuff said... I am a fan and they are the tops!!
(5)robert o.
Amazing baked goods. The croissants were fresh and extremely tasty. A must if you are in need of a sugar rush
(5)Callan C.
Humble little bakery off Centre St. The space is small but enough to fit a few people in the customer area. I had a delicious blueberry muffin and 12oz coffee and found it to be a great value at $3.19. Looking forward to stopping in again for other baked goods!
(4)Cait J.
Hands down one of my favorite places in JP. Blue Frog's croissants are part of our weekend morning routine. The staff is always friendly and welcoming - even sharing bits of fresh baguette with our dog! For the best selection, we've found that stopping by before 10am is best.
(5)Vanessa C.
WHY have you forsaken me Blue Frog??? your cookies used to be a thing of beauty, almost spiritual! your cupcakes were the best I had ever had. now its like the bounce has gone from your bungee :( after several recent trips here I noticed a *significant* drop off in quality. everything is very *VERY* dry. and the taste is just not there. I will continue to hold out hope against hope for you Blue Frog, even though you broke my heart. I guess its back to Fiore's in the meantime....

Who knew! Perfect pizza from a bakery. First let me say, it was awesome. Second, it's only available Friday nights through the end of August, so plan to go next Friday. It's worth changing any other plans you have. We had a group of JP friends on the patio - ordered 10 pizzas (doubled up on some) last night - all 7 kinds of pizza on their menu. - my fav: Finocchions (fennel salami) - a step up from pepperoni - smoked salmon, creme fraiche, scallions and capers. A perfect blend of ingredients. - roasted mushroom, red onion, and arugula. Loved it. Those were my 3 slices. The neighbors' reactions to the others were equally positive. Mmmmmmmm: - sweet Italian sausage and ricotta - chickpea pure, shrimp, ricotta salata, pickled onions, and sriracha - fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil - four cheese From pre, teens to us oldsters, it was a big thumbs up all around. Did I mention the crust? Crisp and tender and chewy all at the same time. Absolutely delicious. Hope this continues past August. In the meantime, I highly recommend you take advantage of this culinary treat while it lasts.

I stopped in Blue Frog Bakery around 11am on a weekday, excited for an ice coffee and potentially a delicious pastry. I was in a bit of a rush, and I could already feel my caffeine headache coming on. I walk into the tiny storefront, and after several moments am greeted by a young woman. I order an ice coffee. The clerk tells me, "oh, only have a little ice left, but the coffee is cold." So I'm somewhat disappointed because a cup chock full of ice is one of the pleasures of ice coffee, but I say it's fine. She puts 3 tiny ice cubes in a 16oz cup and fills the rest with the last bit from a jug of ice coffee. I take my drink and add a bit of milk, and look around for a straw. When I ask she says "oh, we're out of straws. There's a sign." She point to a TINY sign hidden behind a bunch of clutter. So I awkwardly say "...oh...okay" then she charges me a price that escapes me now, but seems absurdly expensive for an ice coffee...without ice...and without a straw. I realize this is a picky review, but some small differences, or at least an acknowledgement of my lacking beverage (in words or price reduction) would have been much appreciated and likely would have resulted in a return. The coffee was okayish, nothing special.
(3)Hannah S.
So my friend's roommate used to work here and thus had to go here when I visited it (because I heard about all the amazing treats this place made!) It was a really really hard choice. Brioche muffins, scones, cookies, cupcakes. I knew I was done for when I saw the fruit tarts. I went with the cranberry and I regret nothing. Gotta get there early if you want croissants!
(4)Meizi H.
I'm a little bit disappointed by this neighborhood bakery. Their chocolate cookies was dry, and blueberry and cherry custard tarts were okay. As a matter of the fact, it tasted better the next day when toasted. Maybe I am spoiled by other bakeries.
(2)Sarah J.
The smell from this place has been torturing me on my morning runs for years. I actually considered changing my route to get to JP pond once because there is nothing less motivating to running at 7am then passing by a place that smells like all the things you've ever tasted that just make you want to lay down. Anyway, I finally stopped in one day on my way back from yoga and now I make an occasional habit of it (again, not helping my workouts matter). Here's my verdict, the blueberry and donut muffins - good, not the best, but good. The raisin scones - pretty good. The service and fact that it's local and tiny - lovely. And then one day I discovered the maple oat butterscotch scone - WHAT DELICIOUS WITCHCRAFT IS THIS?!?! Amazing. Thank God they rarely have it and I have no idea what the schedule is for when they do (it seems random to me) or I'd be in real trouble.
(4)Gail L.
All the desserts at James Gate in JP are from Blue Frog Best creme brulee in town! Great pastries, breads and coffee at the bakery.
(5)Kenneth W.
Really good bread from a friendly neighborhood bakery. I get the ciabatta all the time and they also have delicious pasteries. It's a little hole in the wall so it doesn't have a big selection. The staff is quite friendly. A good neighborhood business.
(4)Charlotte S.
Only stopped in for the coffee but can I just say how refreshing it is to stop in somewhere for the first time, just get a coffee, have it be the first coffee of the day (so you know it's EARLY), and the people treat you like you're a good friend? Meanwhile, the coffee is pretty good AND you get the delicious scents of baked goods while you pay. I've seen closets bigger than the customer space though so don't expect a bistro experience or anything. It's more of a grab and go. Also, the case didn't look incredibly full when I rolled up at 8:30 am which means they either bake continuously throughout the day (good sign) or have a good idea what their sales v. inventory is and bake based on that (good sign). Only major bummer is that I was hoping they'd have bagels. I didn't see any bagels.
(4)Jessica S.
Went in here this morning. Got a really good cranberry egg tart, cinnamon roll, and coffee. The guy working was really nice. No room to hang out here but it's a nice little place to get food to go and I actually like that the pastries are limited. You don't need 50 options at every bakery. What I really like is that my coffee came ready to drink and not scalding hot like at some places. I factor this in heavily because it's just ridiculous that some cafes don't control the temperature and you either burn your tongue or have to wait 30 min to drink it, and yes it can be done. I go to some places that consistently give me coffee at the right temp. The drink fridge was almost empty, my only complaint.

Hey, Blue Frog. I like your name. Is there a secret club of JP establishments that decided to name everything incongruous colors? Blue Frog? Purple Cactus? Blue Nile? But, moving past your name, you are, as yelp has designated the three star review, "A-OK." Your iced coffee is A-OK, but you don't have simple syrup and I know you've experienced the bane that is undissolved sugar crystals partying all sweet style at the bottom of your cup. Don't want to be invited. But, really, it came down to the blueberry muffin. An A-OK muffin? That kind of mediocrity is usually only achieved by middling teenagers. Where was the crisp top Seinfeld taught us all to love? And, not only but probably because I'm a berry enthusiast, where were the blueberries? NPR just told me blueberries are the cheapest they've been in...ever. Let's step up to the plate, the plate with (absent) crumblies of moist muffin morsels...
(3)Sydney T.
Have stopped in quick for coffee before, but this was the first time I've gotten to sample their baked goods. Wow! Proper French country-style boules with a substantial crouton. Also was tempted by a petite frangipane cake (well, okay...I should probably split it, but...that's not happening.) It has cranberries in it and I must say, not exactly what I was expecting (think "less frangipane tart", more "muffin/cake mixed with frangipane"), but I really am enjoying it. Better yet, it kept extremely well all day while sitting on my counter in its bag. Yes, it might be what some consider expensive for bread, but truly it's a steal for the artisan quality. Oh! And the guy at the counter - fantastic! Charming and such a great conversationalist.
(5)Jennifer B.
Love the Blue Frog! This bakery reminds me of the little French bakeries I frequented when I lived just outside Paris. While it doesn't have the delicate appearance of a French bakery, the pastries are on par with the best I've had. I've frequented this bakery many times - mainly because it's a 10 minute walk from my house - and I love it. I've ordered mini tarts for parties, the almond croissants are heavenly, and I'm ordering my birthday cake from them as well. The staff are very friendly, patient, and humorous. Great place in a wonderful and diverse neighborhood. I love living in JP.
(5)Jennifer A.
Stopped by today for the first time. Iced latte was good and pecan cinnamon bun was delicious. Small, quaint place and the baker was so friendly! Will definitely be back!
(5)Dela B.
It was a lot smaller than I expected--A small display case in the front, a cash register, and a few shelves of bread. They have a drink menu, but I can't say anything about that. Bread looked pretty good on the shelf. Their selection was pretty small (or maybe I went too late? I got there at around 1:00...) but it had what I was looking for. I bought a french white boule and dug into it immediately. Dough was a little underdevelopped--very dense, almost... bagel-like? I'm a fan of bagels, but this was a little too much... especially when it was cold so I decided to save it for when I could stick it into the oven. Unfortunately, flavor was a bit lacking as well so even after I warmed it up, i had a hard time eating it without soaking it in olive oil. It wasn't bad, but it really wasn't worth the trip out of Boston especially when I have Bricco's and Clear Flour so close.
(3)Clare M.
Blue Frog Bakery (BFB) is not only delicious, but is BURSTING with cuteness every time I go. Puppies to pet, kids to tickle (in a non creepy way). It's a little bit of heaven for my mouth (the food) and my hands (petting, tickling). The staff are all really nice and funny- the baker rightly mocked me when I walked in a few weeks ago with hostess donettes. I want to be friends with everyone who works here so that I can hang out with them all day, giggling, petting puppies, and eating croissants. I am partial to croissants, but after reading the other reviews, will certainly be trying the scones. My husband loves the bread pudding muffins, but as other people have said, you need to get there early on a Saturday to get one (so worth waking up for). I saw one review that called the Blue Frog a "poor mans Canto 6". I would rather go to Blue Frog any day of the week (but usually only on a Saturday). I'm sure it depends on what you're getting - Canto 6 has way more selection and seating, but for what we get, and because of the cuteness factor, for me, BFB is the clear choice for me!
(5)Eli Z.
All you anti immigrant people...collect and send this man back to Canada...Our family can't stay away from Blue Frog and it is making us fat...
(5)Christia P.
I never knew it was possible to be hustling on a Saturday AM, until I met the DARK CHOCOLATE ALMOND CROISSANT BREAD PUDDING. The baguettes and scones are good, and I have been meaning to try the brioches. It would be nice if the bakery expanded to include a seating area, but as long as this place exists, all is well. This is a great place to go after a nice Saturday AM jog around the Emerald Necklace.
(5)William B.
A tiny store with no place to sit, but they served up a plausible chocolate-chip cookie: dark chocolate chips, dough on the salty side--as it should be.
(3)Sabine S.
The peanut could not be put to better use than it has in the peanut butter cookie from Blue Frog Bakery. I don't know how they do it (lots of brown sugar? Tons of salt?), but this cookie is addictive. If they ever discontinue it, I will cry. It's totally worth each and every calorie. And their decaf is good, which is more than I can say of most places. Thank you, Blue Frog! And by the way, if you don't see what you want in the case, ask for it. It could be fresh out of the oven and not yet on the shelf.
(5)Megan S.
If JP were Paris, there'd be a line of loyal neighbors outside this boulangerie waiting for their baguette every day. As it is, you can normally stroll in and grab one of the best loafs in JP pretty quick just about anytime. - Magnifique!
(5)Paul N.
Easily shadowed by both it's off the center street location, and it's proximity to JP licks, this is a small, but friendly in atmosphere bakery that outshines JP Lick's baked goods by a long shot. With standard baked good prices don't expect anything over the top amazing, but for goods in the 1 - 2 dollar price range it's affordable, tasty, and is at least fresh and well enough to justify every penny. This is my go to bakery in JP. Would be nice to have seating outside....
(4)Steph D.
A. The staff, seriously, you work at a bakery, which means sometimes you have to work at 5am. How can you be so awesome? B. On Valentine's Day they had broken cookies that they frosted and wrote "You broke my heart" on. Way to conserve. C. They serve Raos coffee (Otherside Cafe does too!) and it has this weird hint of cinnamon that makes it like, perfect. D. The croissants - like butter and happiness with a french accent. E. THE SCONES. It's like being in England and it's right off cen'tre' street. F. My girl crush works here and has a tattoo of NH on her arm. I want to be just like her. G. It's a little more run down looking than the other fancy places and I feel like I can go in and grab a weird flavored scone and a cup of coffee and be out of there in 4 bucks.
(4)Chuck K.
This is the Poor Man's version of Canto 6. Its only advantage over Canto is a more convenient location. Taken as a whole, the baked goods, deserts and coffee are ever-so-slightly better-than-average. But it's very easy to be disappointed. None of the fare counts as "amazing." If quality is what you're after, you must go to Canto.
(3)Alexis B.
Booo Blue Frog! So disappointing. We got a smorgasborad of things. 2 eclairs, 2 flourless chocolate cakes, 1 croissant, 1 brioche. The croissant was decent but for only being a few hours old it already started to taste stale. The brioche was boring. I didn't care for the chunks of sugar on top. It took away form the brioche which was just boring and meh. The eclairs were gross! The inside wasn't custard it was like some weird gel consistency. We literally took one bite of them and put them in the trash. The only saving grace was the flourless chocolate cake. It was good but the outside had this weird cardboardy texture. The inside was delicious. So overall I think I'll pass on this bake shop again.
(2)Julie R.
I came in to try the cupcakes. I didn't see any when I arrived then asked the guy and he said there was one left! Then he took a chocolate/vanilla frosting one out of the back of the case. I was thrilled I could get to try one. The cupcake was very dense. It could of passed for a chocolate pound cake. The flavoring was not sweet either. In this case it definitely lacked some necessary sugar. The frosting was greasy and whipped way too high. I had to remove a bunch of it to take a bite. However, the chocolate chip cookie I got was great. It was on the flatter side but didn't have to be chunky to be tasty. It was warm when I bit into it. The bakery is very small. They pack a lot of pastries into the small case. The guy behind the counter was very friendly. I would go back for the cookies but would pass on more cupcakes
(3)Emily P.
1. Come early 2. Bring cash 3. Grab yo' self a brioche
(4)Mon R.
Freshly baked carbohydrate goodies! Walking distance from Green Street/Stony Brook T Stop. Friendly, quick service. This is one local place in JP worth supporting with your $$ :)
(5)Sara S.
I was super excited to go to Blue Frog and try the cupcakes everyones been talking about. I am a HUGE cupcake fan (seriously... I even seek out cupcake places when I go on vaca), so I was really excited to try a new place. Sus and I trekked over to JP. Cute. We were expecting a nice little cafe with some espresso drinks, comfortable seating- maybe even some AC? Wrong. This place is literally the size of a walk-in closet, with the only place to sit being a bench outside. Since this was our lunch, we went all out- got a vanilla with vanilla frosting cupcake, Plum Coffee Cake, and the Chocolate Chip Almond Bread Pudding (thanks for the tip Marie T!). We started out with the Plum Coffee Cake. This was NOT a coffee cake. It was more like a Pound Cake. When you think of coffee cake, you think of cinnamon and sugar (or, at least we did). There wasn't any. It was good, but should be renamed. Wasn't worth writing home about, either. Next, we had the Chocolate Chip Croissant Almond Bread Pudding. I While this was the best out of the bunch, there wasn't much flavor of almond. However, I'd recommend it and go back for it. For the most disappointing part of our visit- the cupcake. I'm sorry, but this cupcake was terrible. Yes, it was edible. It's a freaking cupcake and I'll eat any cupcake. But I've had better cupcakes at Shaw's, Shop and Shop, even from a Funfetti Box. I've never purchased such a dry cupcake in my life. The frosting was disgusting. Presumably, this "butter cream" was not real butter, but margarine or hydrogenated oil with added butter flavoring (a lot of places do this to keep the costs down). The consistency was nice because... yes, margarine has a nice, fluffy consistency. All in all, we were terribly disappointed. It also sucked that the girl behind the counter seemed a little confused when I asked questions as to what things were. Maybe little signs would make it easier for customers. They also didn't have any plates or plastic wear... wtf?
(2)Nate Y.
7/23/08: What happened Blue Frog?? Is it the economy? Are you cutting corners on your ingredients to get by? It seems that the cupcakes have taken a nose dive on yumminess and are dry and not as tasty as they once were. The cookies and bread pudding will still keep me coming. I can only hope things will get better.
(3)Had H.
I love supporting family owned businesses, especially this one. Their coffee/latte's are definitely better than any place i've been to (so far) in JP I think their bagette can be better, but the other breads I've tried were pretty good. They also make some yummy cakes as well. I don't know of a better place for cakes around JP besides Blue Frog. I would like to see this place open up in a larger place with seating.
(4)Jeffrey N.
I go here for one reason, and one reason only. The Ciabatta bread. One of my favorite winter time meals is a delicious bowl of homemade soup, accompanied by a scrumptious crusty Ciabatta bread, topped off with a little room-temperature butter. Mmmmm, Mmmmm, Good. As luck would have it, I'm off to pick up a loaf after work to accompany a bowl of Butternut Squash Soup.
(4)JP M.
In JP for 3 years and I couldn't get anyone to make me a proper eclair. People kept filling them with some kind of fluffy sticky white (possibly vegan? maybe that's what it was?) goo nonsense- throw a girl some custard people! I blame the fact that I always lived south of the monument (The day I seriously the say SoMo is the day I happily eat the while goo eclair) for my never in all that time going into BFB. Then I moved, I went in, I ate an eclair and my whole life changed. I may be exaggerating but only slightly. I went through a phase where I ate these things almost daily. I had to calm down so as to not gain a million pounds but they are amazing. At least once a week I ride the train one stop past my stop to Green Street to get my eclair and walk back with it (that helps to justify the eclair) I keep swearing I'll try the other awesome looking stuff (seriously, the stuff looks incredible) but whenever I open the door my eyes go right to the eclairs. I'm not really serious about the eclairs... they aren't that good, you shouldn't get one. You should get other stuff, lots of other stuff...STOP LOOKING AT MY ECLAIR!!! Seriously though, yummy goodies, the staff are some of the nicest, sweetest funniest people ever and they also have that LevelUp thing that lets me pay with my phone which is always cool. Love this place! Wait!! Stop the presses!! I just remembered the day I was too late for eclairs and ate something else! Wait for it.... donut muffin... let that sink in.... donut muffin. Do I really need to say more about why that is awesome?

First cold morning of Fall 2011 ~ Walking down Green Street ~ Golden croissants come into view ~ Enter square foot of heaven called Blue Frog Bakery ~ "Be careful, they're right out of the oven" says the nice baker ~ Savor hot fresh croissant en route to the T ~ Perfection: crispy on the outside, but not flaking all over the place ~~ beautiful shape and feel ~~ layer up on layer to infinity of delight on the inside. Thank you, BFB!
(5)Abby M.
Love the croissants-- they've got a little more salt than your average croissant but I like it. The staff is usually super friendly, especially considering the absurdly early hours.
(4)Celeste M.
I passed by Blue Frog probably about 50 times before I probably went in. It wasn't that it didn't seem interesting but I was busy busy busy and I didn't think I had time to enjoy the sweetness in life. But I decided to try it instead of the behemoth JP Licks for coffee in the morning - especially since they have REAL pastries and sweets. I forget what exactly we got at Blue Frog though. The pastry it self wasn''t really that memorable, but the coffee was good. I would say that Blue Frog is worth to go in every once in a while, but I has no room for hanging out and isn't really where I'd go for a special breakfast treat.
(4)Sean J.
Yummy treats n' snacks.. and if you hit them up at the right time, it's a quick run in and run out. I say actually take a moment and look at what they got. it's rather small, but the staff is super friendly and the treats are SOOO good. I wouldn't hang out there if my life had to depend on it though. Way too small, and cramped for my taste.
(4)Dragony F.
My 2+hour carbo tour of JP bakeries versus a hefty loaf of cinnamon almond bread and a peanut butter brownie Who wins? my dentist when he collects my money to pay for the bill to fill the cavities caused by all the sugar rotting my teeth from these sweet goodies... cinnamon almond bread = B, half the loaf was almonds which made it kind of dry, however, the dusting of cinnamon sugar was nice and it was perfect for french toast. peanut butter brownie = B, sugar OVERLOAD! this thing was so sweet that I had to stop to get a cup of water to rinse out my mouth, the sweetness trumped the peanut butter taste and kind of lessened the feel good feeling of eating a brownie... Like Canto 6 bakery, Blue Frog was also out of bread (why can't I get my bread!?). Thus, I will have to judge and adjust the stars upon my next visit. The guy behind the counter was really nice though and gave me advice on bread...
(3)Adam E.
The people who own/operate this place are awesome. But nice people don't necessarily mean a quality establishment. Luckily, the products are awesome too! The baked goods are divine, I've indulged in their scones, almond croissants, chocolate croissants and plain ones too. What, I like croissants. They've all been amazing. Better than all that (and probably won't give you diabetes as quickly) are their fresh baked breads. I bought a couple of baguettes for a meeting and my car never smelled better. When I brought it into the office, people wanted to start the meeting early so they could eat the bread, it smelled that good! Well, the bread tasted even better than it smelled. It almost made the meeting worthwhile.

the people there are so nice every time i go in. i love the croissants and cinnamon rolls. however, sometimes i wish for more pastry variety and i do think the stuff there is a tad dense for my taste. but it beats a lot of other pastries nearby, however, i haven't tried canto six yet.

Since I moved to Boston, I've been in search of a really really great cupcake. In Philly, we had Brown Betty's, which was the reigning champ. We've had some good cupcakes here (Carberrys, La Luna, Rosies, Party Favors) some bad ones (Sorry, Kickass Cupcakes, I know you're trying), but none that really knocked my socks off. We stumbled upon Blue Frog and went in. The guy working behind the counter was very friendly and, I assume, a baker since he was in full baking regalia. I had a chocolate cupcake and it was everything I've been searching for and more. The cake was moist and rich, not dry, and the large dollop of chocolate icing was the thick and creamy, almost fudgey. It was perfect. It was a good size, not huge, but not tiny (I'm lookin at you KaC). I probably could have eaten two, but I would have paid for it later, they were that rich. The price was very reasonable at $1.75 and I think every time I'm down in JP I'll be hitting up Blue Frog).

I rarely write negative reviews, but I've never had such bad luck with a bakery. I don't understand why it's so hard to order a cake from here. Either I have really awful timing or this place needs to better organize. I volunteered at Taste of the Nation a few months back and had the pleasure of meeting Blue Frog's owner. A nice person who's clearly a talented baker. I was surprised to find out the bakery is based in J.P., where I lived for five years and somehow never discovered it. I tried several desserts, loved them all, but couldn't get enough of the Chocolate Carrot Cake. It was excellent and two good friends' birthdays were fast approaching. I knew I'd pick up that cake for each of them, no matter how out of the way I'd have to go to get it. Order attempt #1: I forgot entirely about the cake until the day before one of the birthday dinners. I called Blue Frog and asked if I could pick one up. I was told that's a special order cake only and they need 48-hours notice. I didn't see that stipulation on the website, and I would have called much sooner had I known, since the dinner was long planned. My bad. I did, however, clearly get the sense whoever answered heard that question before and may have been slightly annoyed. I may have been overanalyzing his tone, so I didn't think much of it at that point. Order attempt #2: Turns out we planned a second birthday dinner for the same person a couple days later. I made absolutely sure to place the order just after 5:00 since I'd need the cake by 6:00 two days later (they're open till 7:00). This time, I was told the owner just left and they couldn't take the order. But I said it was 48-hours notice... Two-days notice... etc. Seems the owner would have to pick up the items to make that specific cake on his way out that evening. If she took my order, she said she would get in trouble. Why aren't the ingredients to make that particular cake on hand? If they're going to promote this cake as one of their top items at Taste of the Nation, I should be able actually order it, no? I decided I was just never going to have that cake again, and none of my friends would ever have it, so it was time to stop trying to order it and stop talking them up to people. Then I broke my rule. Order attempt #3: I have another birthday dinner coming up this week. Both the girls who I thought would enjoy this cake will be there. It's only four of us. We're eating right around the corner from Blue Frog. I would settle for a cupcake-sized cake at this point. I called again -- more than three days notice this time. Guess what? They're not taking any orders because they're closed this whole week. Ha! What timing. The cake is good -- I would not be going through all this trouble to try to get it otherwise -- but how can I be a customer if they don't make it available? Maybe have a few on hand? Maybe note somewhere on the website that they need 48 hours to make it? Or maybe just commit to that 48-hour rule? Note to the wise: Order WEEKS in advance.

My homegirl lives near here so I guess I am lucky she does (cuz I don't) and I'm lucky she likes me enough to bring their baked goods when I beg and plead. Hands down awesome croissants, muffins, congo bars, whatever - the butter just oozes out of the baked goods. I just ate a scone from here that I had in my fridge for about three days - microwaved that bad boy and voila! Tasted fresh from their bakery! That's a testament to their talents (or my microwaving capabilities, you be the judge). Not to mention, the first time I came here was near closing time and they were just about to dump that day's baked goods - we got them for FREE!! I'm just saying, if you live in JP or if you have a friend that lives in JP, hit these guys up - you WILL NOT be sorry. Cross my heart and hope to die from overeating on their baked goods....

Super-duper peanut-butter cookies. The only people who don't like this place are the people who order the wrong stuff. Don't be one of those people.

The Blue Frog Bakery is the only reason that I'm still alive today because it is mandatory for me to consume their chocolate chip croissant almond bread pudding. It's in a shape of a muffin and there is actually no bread in it...it's all croissant, but who cares?! When I first tried these heavenly creations, I was in shock from how amazing it was. I was motionless for a while. They usually make them on the weekends, so you must get there early. Fortunate for me, I live 30 seconds away. On the rare occasion that I don't eat them, I buy their danishes, cookies, bread, cakes, and scones. Everything is excellent. I even take pastries to my sister, who lives in California. The bakery itself is small and most people take the goodies to go. It's located on Green Street right before Centre St. The staff is friendly and the owners are super cool.

The Blue frog! I remember a few years ago being at my SO aunts house. She lives near by the location where Blue Frog was opening in JP. The big shtick was that the pastry chef of Sonsie and the Garden of Eden opened his own little joint. I think Sonsie and GOE are overrated, yet I was still intrigued to see what this places was all about. Plus I like bad for you food. Simple combo that = a visit I sampled over a few visits: the orange and vanilla custard excellent.....perfect combo and was firm even though no eggs were used Th perfect cupcake with dark chocolate ganache.......if there was ever cupcake that was so good to stand on its own instead of being part of cake, this would be it....The frosting was perfect, not gritty and smooth and buttery while still tasting like chocolate. The cake was moist and fluffy........sigh.......i love cupcakes Raspberry Squares, which were my favorite........shortbread with raspberry, brown sugar and oatmeal topping. Heavenly........the aroma alone from these was a gourmand lovers dream We also stopped by here once to get coffee's and bagels enroute to SO's Aunts. They were wonderful....... Everything was fresh, not too pretentious with quality ingredients. Nothing tasted as if it was sitting in the case for too long......it really hit the spot with out being too much. I feel that sometimes when people try to stand out they put too much effort into creating something new instead of re-creating a classic. Definitely not worth the trip all the way to JP, but if you are in the neighborhood, definitely make it a point to stop in. Weekend mornings prove to be the most popular time patrons drag themselves to BF, half asleep, in hopes of eating something spectacularly yummy...... watch out for the line out the door

If Heaven was a bakery it would be the Blue Frog, and it would always have chocolate croissants when I wanted, and I wouldn't gain weight from eating them for breakfastlunchdinnerdessertmidnightsnack. And sometimes...I would have the chocolate croissant bread pudding instead, but then I'd finish it off with another chocolate croissant. I (heart) The Blue Frog. Best goddamned coffee this side of the Atlantic. ( I mean I once had a cappuccino in Florence, that I think might have been better but I think I thought it was better because I was having a cappuccino in Florence, you know.) AND YOU CAN GET IT WITH SOY DRINK!

I always get cakes from here and they are always beautiful and great tasting. Guests are always impressed with them. I should have written this a while back, but was just reminded of how much I like going there. I like everything I have gotten, from tarts to the panna cotta. I wish they had everything in stock all the time, but maybe that is better as I would be eating more... anyway the staff is always nice and friendly and focused on the customer.

Have since also had a cranberry almond muffin and a cinnamon roll/sticky bun. While delicious, the roll was a little too dense for me...but I still ate the whole thing. The muffin, however, I had 0 complaints about - a crunchy top, the tang of the cranberries, moistness throughout - perfection! And, once again, affordable - both together cost me 4.25.

I was in JP the other day and had tried to stop in a few times and it was closed. Today I made it and sooooo disappointed. I walked into this tiny spot with a small display case and one big man helping me...not much to help me with since the case had 2 eclairs, 1 pear tart, 1 strawberry tart and that was it -- NOTHING to choose from - what a waste - why even stay open. There was some bread, but come one -- I left without buying anything and felt awkward since you are a foot away when you walk in the door and have to turn around and leave - oh well. I will try it if I am in the area - but I won't rush back or tell anyone to go there, unless you are there at the opening, maybe when they first open there will be more choices. you win some you lose some, but if you don't have anything to sell - just close.

Unfortunately, nothing vegan in terms of sweet things (which is sad, as their pies look oh-so good - but I think I seriously offended the guy when I naively asked whether they could make any of these vegan; his answer was a dry "I'm not into that kind of stuff."), but definitely the best Ciabatta in JP (and possibly in Boston safe for the North End, which, in my opinion, still has the best bread full-stop).

Sweet Jesus, the chocolate croissant is the best I've ever had (ok, I've never been to France so y'all just calm down)... And at 7am, and post yoga. Hmmmhmmmm I just wanna crawl back into bed with my new lover (the chocolate croissant) and cry. Coffee is average, but all the reviews are serious. Those scones though, amazeballs.

We were going to be in Jamaica Plain for an errand on the way to meet friends for dinner. Having told them we'd bring some sweet treats for dessert, I did a quick search to see if there were any good bakeries in the area and - voila! I found Blue Frog. My husband pulled over on the street and I ran in to get a quick selection. Quick is not the right word, as I could NOT decide!! Luckily, the girl who helped me was so friendly & patient - she even waited as I ran back out to the car to ask my husband's advice. I ended up getting a selection of 4 mini desserts. I think I did 1 chocolate cupcake; 2 custards/tarts - one blueberry & one cranberry; and 1 apple "bread pudding..." By the time we ate dessert, I was SO FULL, so I didn't taste everything, but the bread pudding was def my fav. And everyone was very happy. And it only came out to $14.34 (plus a $1 credit from LevelUp!). I will def be back to Blue Frog the next time I'm in the area and need something sweet. Or some bread, as it looked DELISH.

I think I've just had the best almond croissant this side of the pond. And that's saying a lot, what with the many bakeries grabbing our attention these days in Boston (not to mention the North End delicacies), but what I had was flaky, not too buttery, and - this is key - didn't make me feel like I ate sugared coconut by the end of it. Light, sweet, and the best balance of crunch and chew. Definitely coming back for the challah, scones, cho-almond croissant bread pudding, and more!
(5)Mary C.
Absolutely delicious. The croissants are super flaky and buttery... and the raspberry bars, ohhh the raspberry bars... like a bite of heaven! Try for yourself!

I absolutely adore the food at the Blue Frog. I get a little sad when they sell out of something before I can get there in the mornings, but it's my only caveat. The raisin scones and sticky buns are brilliant, while the bread pudding muffins are amazing in ways I cannot begin to put into words.

Great Pastries. Although I kind of like the simplicity and tiny space of Blue Frog, I want more of a selection and recommend opening a larger space to satisfy all of us in JP looking for a go-to bakery. On top of eating many of their delicious pastries I have also tried their cake at a party that was incredible. Go try their Sticky Buns!

Based on one visit. To be honest, I prefer out-of-the-box cakes to gourmet, but I recently got a raspberry mousse cake for my boyfriend's birthday and it was, quite possibly, perfect. Just the right consistency, not overly sweet, not too much raspberry. And I LOVED the presentation. They used a really cool script for the birthday wish which added that extra touch. Can't wait to try their other baked goodies.

Love the frog. Terrific coffee, and everything I've gotten there has been delicious - cinnamon buns, scones, bread pudding, brioche, muffins, chocolate croissants....outsranding! Never had the cupcakes or pies, but they look great - friendly people too, the owner/baker always pops his head out to say hello. Way too small, though, they need to find a larger space - this would SO be the type of place you'd hang around for hours if they had tables. Took one star away for the lack of space.

Get the scones - any scone - and have a happy day!

Yummy. They're a small bakery with good snacky foods like cookies. I have yet to try their cakes and stuff.
